Today we released our estimates on Russian residential broadband market size.

Total number of residential broadband sibscribers in Russia is estimated at 9.44 mln. Comstar, Vimpelcom and Volgatelecom are the top players in the segment.

We are specifically emphasize that the numbers reported are residential accounts. The number of corporate connections is not included into our estimates. This may cause some difference with figures reported by operators who tend to combine residential and enterprise customers.

May 2009 cellular data estimates, Russia and Ukraine

AC&M released its estimates on cellular market of Russia and Ukraine as of May 2009. Highlights of the market development in May are:

Russia
  • Number of subscribers (valid SIM cards) increased to 194.7 mln, up 1.9 mln from April 2009, 23.8 mln from May 2008;
  • Penetration increased to 134.1% (up 1.3% from April 2009, 16.4% from May 2008);
  • There were 195 and 174 SIM cards in use per 100 population in Moscow and St.Petersburg respectively as of May 31, 2009.
Ukraine
  • Number of subscribers (valid SIM cards) decreased to 55.1 mln, down 0.1 mln from April 2009, down 0.05 mln from May 2008);
  • Penetration decreased to 119.5% (down 0.1% from April 2009, up 0.5% from May 2008).

Cellular VAS data for the first quarter of 2009

AC&M releases data on market breakdown and share of value added services in revenues of Russian cellular operators as of first quarter of 2009.

MTS holds the top position with 30.6% of the market while MegaFon and Vimpelcom are catching in with 29.0% and 27.6% respectively.

MTS is the leader in content and messaging segments of the market. Megafon and Vimpelcom are leaders in mobile data.

AC&M released its estimates on Russian and Ukrainian cellular markets for April 2009.

We also released quarterly cellular VAS statistics for the fourth quarter of 2008 and annual 2008 and 2007 numbers.

Key points of 2009 April cellular market data are:

Russia

  • Number of subscribers (valid SIM cards) increasedto 192.8 mln, up 2 mln from March 2009, 23.5 mln from April 2008;
  • Penetration  increased to 132.8% (up 1.4% from March 2009, 16.2% from April 2008);
  • There were 192 and 171 SIM-cards in use per 100 population in Moscow and St.Petersburg respectively as of April 30, 2008.

Ukraine

  • Number of subscribers (valid SIM cards) decreased to 55.2 mln, down 0.3 mln from March 2009, up 0.1 mln from April 2008);
  • Penetration decreased to 119.7% (down 0.6% from March 2009, up 0.8% from April 2008).

Facts and Figures
